Brotmanufaktur Schmidt

In many cultures, bread is a symbol of life. This staple food comes in many different forms around the world, and although it is simple to make, it is also a great art. You can taste the difference between industrially produced and handmade bread with every bite.
That’s why we source our bread and rolls from Brotmanufaktur Schmidt, located right in the heart of Munich. Once baked, it won't be long before you find the baked goods on our breakfast buffet. The flour comes from the Weissmühle mill in Bruckmühl, and the eggs come from free-range hens raised by Farmer Herzog in Schwindegg. It doesn't get much more regional or sustainable than that!

Piller Pretzels

The 'Brezn', or pretzel as it's also known, is an essential part of a proper Munich breakfast. Whether served classically with white sausage, dipped in Obazda, as a butter pretzel, or in more modern variations baked with seeds or cheese, this lye-baked pastry will enrich your mornings.

Here at the Platzl Hotel, you can enjoy authentic 'Piller pretzels', which many consider to be the best in the world. These legendary pretzels are usually only otherwise available at the city’s street stalls run by the “Brotfrauen” (bread ladies), or in some of the large Oktoberfest tents for which the Piller bakery has been baking since 1972. The recipe has remained unchanged since then, producing the same unmistakable result: a pretzel that is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and delicately yeasty. The pretzels also boast the perfect chestnut-brown colour and obligatory split in the middle.

Faller Jams & Preserves

For our trusted jam manufacturer, we leave Bavaria but remain in southern Germany. Faller Konfitüren is a third-generation family business that produces its sweet breakfast treats in the Black Forest.

Sustainability is also a top priority at Faller, which is why only fruit and berries from the local area are used. This is how the jams and preserves were made a hundred years ago: in small batches, stirred by hand and without artificial flavourings.
