THE BEST CYCLE ROUTES IN MUNICH
On your next trip to Munich think about exploring the city by bike, it's totally worth it! In the following we want to introduce you the most beautiful cycle routes through the city. Our first two routes start at Platzl Hotel following Munich's boulevard to the English Garden, along many sights and back to the Platzl Hotel.
By the way: Of course you can rant bicycles right in the Platzl Hotel Munich.
(about 2-3 hours including stops)
Start at the Platzl Hotel Munich and turn right into the Maximilianstrasse. Follow one of Munich’s shopping boulevards pass by many exclusive boutiques to Maxmonument (B). Then, take the Maximilian Bridge on which you have a beautiful view over the Isar River, and continue to the Maximilianeum (C). Take a short stop at the fountain in front of the building which houses the Bavarian State Parliament and then go through the Maximiliansanlagen downstream in the direction of the Angle of Peace (D) which is you next stop.
Cross the Isar here and follow another Munich boulevard, the Prinzregentenstraße, past the Bavarian State Museum to the bridge over the small Eisbach river (E), where you can watch the world-famous Eisbach-Surfers. Now you can turn directly into the Englischer Garten, one of the world’s largest public urban parks. Follow the ways along the small river to the north you reach a fork at the first big grassland. Take the right path here and continue to the Monopteros (F). When you park your bike and go just a few meters up to the Monopteros, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view over Munich’s old town.
Our track now extends further north to the nearby beer garden at the Chinesischer Turm (G, Chinese Tower) – a world famous place for enjoying a cold draft beer and a small Bavarian snack. On Wednesdays (from 4 p.m.), Saturdays (from 1 p.m.) and Sundays (from noon) there is also Bavarian live music by a brass band on the first floor of the Chinese tower. Well rested now take a wide berth and go south until you arrive at Milchhäusl (H), a small organic snack bar / organic beer garden. Apart from pure organic products you can also enjoy a very good coffee here.
Then follow the cycle path to the southern end of the Englischer Garten and use the underpass located behind the Prinz-Carl-Palais. Stop in the Hofgarten (I, court yard) and enjoy the view of the manicured park with Theatinerkirche (Theatine Church St. Cajetan) in the background and the Bavarian State Chancellery. Now continue the track through the Hofgarten to Odeonsplatz (J) where you can visit the church. From there you pass by the beautiful National Theater (K) back to the Platzl. Leave the day with a fresh drafted beer from wooden barrals at the Wirtshaus Ayinger (L) and pass the many pleasant impressions in review.
(about 3-4 hours including stops)
As an extension of the first track this cycle track through Munich leads along the Isar River to the northern city limit. Back to the Platzl Hotel Munich it goes through the northern part of the Englischer Garten.
Start at the Platzl Hotel Munich and follow the first cycle track, past the Maxmonument (B) to the Maximilianeum (C). Then cycle through the Maximiliansanlagen to the Angel of Peace (D). From there the track changes.
Continue downstream through the green areas along the Isar River. Pass under the next two bridges until you see the Oberföhring barrage (E). Here you can make a short stopover and enjoy the view over the River and the city in the background. Afterwards follow the paths along the River Isar (Note: The route in the Google map at this point is not correct) up to a large wooden bridge over the river (F). Cross the river at this point.
Follow the paths southbound back to the inner city of Munich. Just as you want, you can go directly along the River Isar or cycle through the quiet northern part of the Englischer Garten (G). After a slightly longer part of the trip you will cross the Mittlerer Ring road system, which separates the English Garden in a north and a south section. At this point you already see the beer garden Seehaus next to a beautiful small lake, the Kleinhesseloher See (H). For your culinary well-being you have two options: Make a stop in the beer garden next to the lake or cycle further south to the beer garden at the Chinese Tower (I).
After this stop the last part of the cycle track through Munich past the Monopteros (J) and the Japanisches Teehaus (Japanese Teehouse) to the underpass at the Prinz-Carl-Palais. From there, follow the track I through the Hofgarten (K), over the Odeonsplatz, past the Nationaltheater (National Theatre) back to Platzl (L). At the end of the day you can enjoy a freshly tapped Ayinger beer from wooden barrels and a Bavarian snack in the Wirtshaus Ayinger and enjoy the Bavarian atmosphere at the Platzl.
