THE SPORTSCHECK CITY RUN – A LOOK BACK
On June 29, 2014, it was time again to “Get ready, set, go!”.
The Sportscheck City Run has been a June fixture in Munich for 35 years in which some 18,000 participants fill the city wearing bright orange. The runners can show their stuff on a number of different routes, including a half marathon and a 10K. Despite the unpleasant weather this year, all of the participants from the Platzl team successfully reached the finish line! Our team ran a total of 700 km! We are very proud of the distance we ran, as well as having the children aid project “YoungWings” cheering us on! We have kept our promise and donated €20 for each kilometer our team ran. This meant a donation to YoungWings of more than €14,000!
This year’s run took participants from the starting point on Marienplatz via Dienerstraße and Residenzstraße to the Hofgarten, then to the Englischer Garten and back, and finally over Weinstraße back to the finish line at Marienplatz. Known to most Munich joggers as one of the best stretches in town, the Englischer Garten is an impressive park with its beautiful trails and central location. But on Sundays and holidays, the joggers need to keep their runs here to mornings as the park fills up over the day with numerous strollers and sunbathers…
Luckily there are plenty of other fantastic trails and routes in the city, such as Nymphenburg Palace Park and the Olympic Park. Here’s a selection of the most popular and most beautiful jogging stretches in Munich!
