Besides the popular Bock beer festivals in Munich also further highlights the 9th Munich Crime Festival are offered. Here we have compiled the best events in March for you!
End of the carnival season
BR-Funk Balls (radio station in the Arnulfstraße, March 4 till March 7, 2011)
As every year, the radio station of the “Bayerischer Rundfunk” welcomes you this year with lots of festivals and great entertainment. The motto of the radio balls is “A cage for fools” and promises live music and entertainment for any age!
Munich foolish (Munich inner city, March 6 till March 8, 2011)
Between Carnival Sunday and Shrove Tuesday the Munich downtown becomes a large open air party location. For three days the city belongs to the fools. At Karlsplatz Stachus square and the Marienplatz large stages will be set up. Munich’s radio stations and carnival associations will bring exciting amusement to your celebration. And if you need a little alternation, just visit one of the numerous restaurants and bars (such as the Park Café), where various carnival parties will be going on.
Another highlight of the Munich carnival season is the traditional dance of the market women. At 11 a.m. on Shrove Tuesday the market women hand over the work their men, put on their costumes and perform a worth-seeing, long-proven dance. Nearly 30,000 people come to see this highlight in the inner city of Munich each year.
After the dance carnival friends can still celebrate with plenty of delights sold at the many small bars and market stalls. After the party at the Viktualienmarkt you can visit the surrounding bars or the beautiful city district “Glockenbach” where you can celebrate late into the night.

The 9th Crime Festival in Munich (different locations, March 15 till March 31, 2011)
About 70 famous crime authors from all over the world will meet in Munich next to the Isar for “forensic evidence” in March. These include Simon Beckett, Johan Theorin, Martin Walker and many other known names from the crime novels. Discover one of the greatest international crime festivals in the Bavarian capital.
Bock beer season in Munich
Right after the joyful singing and dancing in the carnival season begins another very special time in Munich: the Bock beer season. In these weeks the Bock beer of the Munich breweries will be served at various festivals in the city. The best known of these festivals takes place on the traditional Nockherberg. It’s highlight is the famous politician “Derbleck’n” which will take place on March 23.

Airbräu (Munich Airport)
Between Ash Wednesday and Good Friday the strong “Aviator” will be served in the restaurant of the airport brewery Airbräu. The official “Aviator-tapping” takes place on March 9.
Augustinerkeller (Arnulfstr. 52, 80335 Munich)
The Augustinerkeller celebrates the Bock beer season every Thursday to Saturday between March 17 and April 9. The specially brewed Bock beer, the “Maximator”, is traditionally freshly tapped of a wooden barrel.
Löwenbräu (Stiglmaier Platz, 80335 Munich)
Traditionally, Christian Schottenhamel and the ”Damischen Ritter” start the Bock beer season in the Löwenbräukeller. During the tapping of the “Triumphator” beer on March 17 the comedians Christian Springer (as “FONSI”) and Ottfried Fischer will entertain the guests. After this event the Bock beer festival with live bands is going on from March 18 till April 16 every Wednesday till Saturday.
Nockherberg (Hochstraße 77, 81541 Munich)
Locals and visitors can enjoy the biggest Bock beer festival in Munich between March 25 and April 10 at the Nockherberg. The serving of the “Salvator” beer will be accompanied by the Oktoberfest band “The Nockherberger”.
Unionsbräu (Einsteinstraße 42, 81675 Munich)
Fresh from the wooden barrel the “Unimator” beer will be served in the Unionsbräu in the city district Haidhausen between March 18 and April 7. At specific dates, the bands “Shawn`s ELVIS SHOW” and “Vohburger`s HAPPY MUSIC” will entertain the guests.
