Active in Munich
At the beginning of May we reported on our new Platzl bikes and after a month we think it’s the right time for an initial review. The outcome is extremely positive: a pleasing number of guests have already borrowed the authentic retro bikes from Scott. As a result, barely a day has gone by whitout the bikes beeing on a voyage of discovery through the resplendent metropolis on the Isar river this spring. We have put together a special offer for anyone who wants to enjoy original Bavarian treats while out and about: our “Cycling picnic basket” costs just EUR 55 and you can book the matching package including two nights and lots of other extras from EUR 365 in a single room or EUR 485 in a double room – as a result your cycling tour is doubly worthwhile.
Munich, the cycling capital
Munich has definitely become more and more bike friendly since the city administration decided to actively promote cycling in 1992. In the meantime, the network of cycle paths totals 1,200 km, while 35 percent of all everyday routes can already be covered by bike. Providing the best conditions for long cycling tours through beautiful Munich and its idyllic surrounding areas.
Cycle tours in Munich and its surrounding area
The variety is huge: you can combine your cycling tour through Munich with a whole range of different stops and therefore cover extremely interesting themed circuits. At this point we would like to introduce you to our two Platzl routes past Munich’s most stunning spots. They both start at the hotel and depending on what you fancy you can choose the long (3 to 4 hours) or short (2 to 3 hours) one.
We would also really like to highly recommend to you the cycling tours that the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV) have selected in cooperation with the ADFC. Cycle, for example to Mangfalltal, Erdinger Moos or Fünf-Seen-Land regions. And the best thing is: you can cycle far out into the area surrounding Munich without having to worry about whether you’re fit enough to cycle home. As the end of every tour is a regional train or underground station from where you can conveniently travel back into the city by train.
Hiking in the Fünf-Seen-Land region
A hike through the Fünf-Seen-Land region is just as beautiful as a cycling tour. There are also many hiking routes of varying lengths and levels of difficulty, most of which can be reached really easily by regional train. Enjoy unspoilt nature, the mild air and stunning alpine panorama around the large and small lakes just outside Munich – the perfect day trip for your stay in the heart of the Bavarian capital here at Platzl Hotel Munich.
