“Donned in Turkish costume, Ludwig II would sit here and read, surrounded by his bags, carpets and cushions being carried by his servants dressed as Muslims…” (Louise von Kobell)
In winter there is nothing better than warming up after a busy day of sightseeing and shopping or a long business meeting with a long visit to the sauna. Relax like a king or queen in the Moorish kiosk at the Platzl Hotel Munich and let the splendour take you to another world, as it once did for King Ludwig II. A journey of the senses to a “Thousand and One Nights” will take you far away to a place of peace and relaxation. The spa offers a relaxation area with heating benches, light therapy, music and solarium, a wet area with sauna, aroma steam bath, foot bath and spa showers and a fitness room with treadmill and bicycles – all to help you unwind after a long day.
In 1876, King Ludwig II bought a pavilion, known as the Moorish Kiosk, that he had seen nine years earlier at the Paris World Exhibition. Completely taken with the structures of the exotic pavilion was Carl von Diebitch, who originally designed it as Prussia’s official entry to the Paris World Exhibition. In the centre of the kiosk is a golden central dome and the four outer corners are each decorated with small, shimmering gold minarets. Because the king thought the Moorish Kiosk was still too plain, he had a marble fountain and a luxurious peacock throne, custom-made in Paris, installed inside.
The Moorish Kiosk at the Platzl Hotel reflects the inspiration of this original and offers a relaxing oasis on the fifth floor, right in the heart of Munich. Treat yourself to sometime just for yourself and take a short break from the everyday hustle and bustle of the city.
