The festival of Christmas is approaching fast and the Platzl Hotel is also adorned, decorated and dressed up. Carols and delicious scents emanate from all corners. Christmas stars, bright lights and garlands – The Platzl Hotel Munich shines in the traditional Christmas colours of red and green. There is a welcoming atmosphere, allowing guests to feel at home. The special, personal touch ensures Bavarian hospitality and a cosy ambience. We light the Advent wreath with our hotel manager Heiko Buchta. Mrs Inselkammer decorates the traditional Christmas tree, which was selected by a Platzl Hotel employee with special care.

Just around the corner from the Platzl Hotel, there is the Christmas market on Marienplatz in the heart of Munich. It is the oldest and most famous Christmas market in the state capital. The Christmas market was solemnly opened personally by Lord Mayor of Munich Christian Ude on 25 November. Amidst the festively decorated stalls, visitors and locals can admire the magnificent Christmas tree. About 2,500 candles illuminate the entire Marienplatz and turn it into a wonderful Christmas story. Physical needs are also catered for: There await sweet delicacies such as crepes, spicy Elise gingerbread, waffles and roasted almonds for the numerous visitors. For those who like something a little heartier, sausages, hearty tarte flambee and French fries are also offered. With a hot cup of mulled wine, brandy punch or a fruit punch, the winter cold can quickly turn into boisterous Christmas spirit.

Considered a special attraction is Germany’s greatest manger which has belonged to the Munich Christmas market since the 18th century. The hand-carved works of art and figures inspire young and old alike and invite you to stroll. If you are still looking for a special Christmas gift, at the Munich Christmas market you are at the right address. From old German Christmas decorations, hand-painted glass balls and lamb skins to nostalgic images and paper goods from third world trade, the selection is huge. Here you can spend hours of atmospheric moments in a traditional Bavarian Christmas ambience. A visit to the Christmas Market is just the thing to unwind from a stressful day at work or a shopping spree.

The entire staff of the Platzl Hotel provides a joyful Christmas mood, busily making final preparations for celebrations and wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
