Big Events and Cultural Highlights in the Autumn

Traditional outdoor concert with all Oktoberfest traditional musicians on the steps in front of the Bavaria statue (29 Sept 2013, 11 am)

The Munich Oktoberfest, the world’s biggest folk festival, will take place this year for the 180th time. The first festival was celebrated in honour of the wedding of King Ludwig I and Therese of Bavaria in 1810, and since then has become inseparable from Munich history. A special highlight of Oktoberfest, held traditionally on the second Sunday of the Oktoberfest, is the open concert in front of the steps of the Bavaria statue. Starting at 11 am, all the traditional musicians in all the tents will gather to make music with their Alphorns, brass instruments and drums. Under the direction of Munich celebrities, everything from traditional Bavarian brass band music to popular Oktoberfest songs will be played, creating a unique Bavarian atmosphere. Thousands of balloons will be released into the blue and white Bavarian sky at the end of the musical spectacle.
