The Perfect Summer Day in Munich

Taking in the sun, enjoying the heat, relaxing in nature, sports, famous sites, and discovering exciting attractions, savouring ice cream, shopping in the city, appreciating light summer meals – all this and much more is the summer in Munich! So that you can spend an all-round excellent day with us in the Platzl Hotel München, and within the provincial capital city, we have arranged a perfect summer day for you in Munich. Let yourself be inspired by our suggestions.

Start into the Day

In order to appropriately start the day in Munich, you could begin with the appetizing Platzl Hotel München breakfast buffet. In accordance with Bavarian tradition we will gladly regale you with fresh Munich white sausage and hearty meat loaf. Of course Platzl also serves fresh fruit and homemade Platzl granola for healthy refreshment. The sweet tooth is also taken care of by homemade waffles and freshly brewed Dallmayr’s coffee, rounding off this wide selection. Begin your day by enjoying this energizing breakfast selection, along with many other options!

Explore the City

After the perfect start into the day, it is time to explore the city and to experience the famous Munich lifestyle. For example you could appreciate the Glockenbach District – one of Munich’s “hip neighbourhoods” – and its well-known Gärtnerplatz. Around the Gärtnerplatz, you can stroll through numerous small shops and in doing so come across everything from rarities to designer items and many other lovely finds. Or treat yourself in a small, unique café to a second cup of morning coffee, while admiring the blooming grassy areas.

You can then enjoy some time in Schwabing – one of the most popular districts in Munich. Here, on Leopoldstraße and Hohenzollernstraße, there are luxurious shopping possibilities, and small, excellent boutiques in which there is something for everybody.

In the Haidhausen district, among other things you could admire the Maximilianeum, the site of the Bavarian Parliament, as well as the Gasteig, Munich’s cultural centre. At little farther down, the Weißenburger Brunnen, part of Weißenburger Platz, invites you to stay a while and relax, or you might experience Munich’s Markt-Trubel in Wiener Platz.

Lunchtime Refreshment

If your stomach has gradually begun to growl, the Wirtshaus Ayingers will gladly greet you for a small lunchtime snack. For example allow yourself to savour a light Bauerngartlsalat (farmer’s garden salad), a trout with tomatoes and lemon, or a Brotzeitbrett’l (light meals on a plate). Relax in Wirtshaus Ayingers with a tasty snack on the sunny terrace in the heart of the city, and enjoy the comings and goings on the Platzl.

Sunbathing in Nature

After this small refreshment, there is nothing in the way of an outing to Munich’s verdant natural sites. The sun and that Munich summer feeling especially lend themselves to being enjoyed in the English Garden, the Botanic Garden, in Olympiapark, at the Isarauen, or in Schlosspark Nymphenburg. In Olympiapark there is also the opportunity to visit the Olympic Tower via trolley. On top of Munich’s Olympic Tower or Television Tower, which is considered to be one of the landmarks of the city, you will have a fabulous 182 meter view over the entirety of Munich and all the way to the Alps. Enjoy this fabulous view and the summer weather!

Ice Cold Refreshment

If you are looking to cool off after sunbathing in one of Munich’s parks, a visit to one of the Munich ice cream parlours is recommended. Some special ice-cream parlours are “BallaBeni Icecream” on 46 Theresienstraße, or “Der verrückte Eismacher” (The Crazy Ice Cream Maker) on 77 Amalienstraße, to name a few. In “BallaBeni Icecream” you could enjoy what is for many people in Munich “the best ice cream in the city”, or at the “Der verrückte Eismacher” you could try the latest and truly crazy ice cream creations, like tequila sunrise ice cream, white sausage ice cream, “Duplo ice cream”, “Rosé champagne ice cream” and many more.

Sightseeing in the City

To insure that you don’t miss out on any city highlights during your perfect summer day in Munich, you should allow yourself to visit some of the best attractions, for example Marienplatz together with the Rathaus (City Hall), the Viktualienmarkt and its market stalls, and the Frauenkirche are not to be missed. For lovers of art, a visit to one of Munich’s numerous museums is also recommended – for example there is the Alte Pinakothek, or the Pinakothek der Moderne. Football fans may come by for a visit to the Allianz Arena, and can get a tour of the stadium for a small fee. And fans of classy, high-powered cars will be well-served by a visit to BMW Welt (BMW World) or to the BMW Museum.

A Light Summer Evening Menu

After this eventful day in the city spoil yourself at the first class Pfistermühle restaurant with their delicious summer menu. Get inspired in advance by checking out their current menu suggestions, and enjoy the finest Bavarian delicacies from this upscale kitchen. Over your meal on Pfistermühle’s terrace you could take in the evening sun and the mellow summer breeze.
